Project Abstract

Electrical Equipment Inventory Management System
Project Abstract
Departments and workshops that rely on electrical equipment often struggle to track what
equipment they own, who has borrowed it, and when it was last serviced. Manual logbooks or
spreadsheets are slow to search and easy to lose. This project proposes a simple,
computer-based system to register, issue, and monitor electrical equipment from one central
place.
Problem Statement
Without a reliable tracking system, equipment can go missing, maintenance schedules are
forgotten, and staff waste time searching for available tools. There is a need for a lightweight
system that records equipment details and their movement in real time.
Objectives
To design a system that allows an administrator to: register new electrical equipment with unique
identifiers; track scheduled and completed maintenance dates; issue and return equipment to
staff; generate simple usage and maintenance reports; and identify equipment quickly using
barcode or QR code scanning.
Scope
The system will cover equipment registration, issuing/returning, maintenance date tracking, basic
reporting, and barcode/QR code lookup. It will be built as a single-user or small-team desktop/web
application suited to a school project, not a large industrial deployment.
Methodology and Technologies
The system will be developed using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the interface, with Python
(Flask) handling the backend logic, and MySQL as the database for storing equipment, staff, and
maintenance records. QR code generation and scanning will be implemented using the Python
qrcode library and a JavaScript barcode-scanning library.
Expected Outcome
A working prototype that lets an administrator register equipment, issue and receive it, view
maintenance due dates, generate reports, and scan barcodes/QR codes to quickly find an item's
record.
