Project Abstract

The management of patient records, appointments, billing, and staff coordination in many healthcare facilities is often manual, time-consuming, and prone to errors. In Zambia, where healthcare resources are limited, there is a growing need for digital solutions that improve efficiency, data accuracy, and service delivery.

This project presents the design and implementation of a Hospital Management System (HMS) a secure, web-based platform that streamlines hospital operations. The system manages patient registration, doctor scheduling, appointment booking, billing, and reporting through an intuitive interface.

Built with PHP, MySQL, HTML, and CSS, the system features role-based access for Admin, Doctor, and Receptionist users. Each role interacts with a customized dashboard that displays relevant data and functionalities. The system uses prepared statements to prevent SQL injection and password hashing to ensure user data security.

The Hospital Management System aims to improve operational efficiency, reduce paperwork, enhance patient experience, and support healthcare providers in delivering timely and accurate care. By digitizing core hospital functions, the system demonstrates the potential of technology to transform healthcare administration in Zambia and beyond.
