Project Abstract

ShelfService is a web-based modern library management system built to fix the problems of manual book-tracking in academic libraries, such as lost records and confusion over overdue fines. The objective is to give students an easy way to search, request, and borrow books, while giving librarians tools to manage returns and fines efficiently. The system lets students request books online or borrow in person, using a virtual library card to track their history. It automatically charges a K20 fine plus K20 per extra overdue day, and rewards students with no overdue history "Good borrowers" by letting them borrow more books at once and this will be displayed on the student's dashboard. Email reminders help prevent late returns, while librarians get a dashboard to approve requests, track fines, and view borrowing analytics. The expected outcome is a more transparent, efficient, and error-free library system for both students and staff.
