Project Abstract

Student Accommodation Finder Project
1. Project Idea
The Student Accommodation Finder is a web-based system designed to help students find suitable accommodation quickly and conveniently. Finding safe, affordable, and conveniently located accommodation can be challenging, especially for students who are new to an area or institution. Students may have to depend on word of mouth, notice boards, social media, or physically visit different places before finding suitable accommodation.
The proposed website provides a simple platform where students can search for accommodation according to their location and budget. The system will present accommodation information in an organized way, making it easier for students to identify places that meet their requirements. The website will contain sections such as Home, Accommodation, About Us, and Contact, together with a search form where users can enter their preferred location and budget.
2. Objectives
The main objective of the project is to develop a simple and user-friendly website that assists students in finding suitable accommodation.
The specific objectives are to:
Provide students with an easy way to search for accommodation.
Allow users to search based on location and budget.
Organize accommodation information clearly and conveniently.
Reduce the time and effort required to find student accommodation.
Provide information that can help students make informed accommodation choices.
Develop practical skills in HTML, CSS, and web development.
Create a website with a simple and understandable interface that can be improved with additional features in the future.
3. Methodology
The project will use a web development methodology involving several stages. First, information will be gathered to understand the accommodation problems faced by students and determine the features required in the system. The requirements will then be analyzed to identify the information that the website needs to provide.
The next stage will involve designing the website structure and user interface. HTML will be used to create the basic structure and content of the website, including headings, navigation links, forms, labels, and input fields. CSS will be used to improve the appearance of the website by controlling colours, fonts, spacing, alignment, backgrounds, and the layout of different elements.
The website will then be implemented using the designed structure. Testing will be carried out by opening the website in a web browser and checking whether the navigation links, search fields, buttons, and page layout work correctly. Errors identified during testing will be corrected. The system can later be extended using JavaScript or a database to provide more advanced search and accommodation-management functions.
4. Expected Outcome
At the end of the project, a functional and user-friendly Student Accommodation Finder website is expected to be produced. Students should be able to access the website, navigate between its sections, enter their preferred location and budget, and search for suitable accommodation.
The project is also expected to demonstrate the student's understanding of fundamental web-development concepts, particularly HTML structure and CSS styling. The completed website will provide a foundation that can be expanded in the future with features such as accommodation photos, prices, availability, contact details, maps, user accounts, and database-supported searches. Overall, the project is expected to provide a practical digital solution for making the process of finding student accommodation more organized and convenient.
