Project Abstract

This project is a Hostel Room Booking System built with PHP and MySQL for the Information and Communications University. It automates student accommodation booking through relational database design normalized to 3NF. Students select a room type and are allocated an available room automatically, with payment details recorded at booking. Staff use a password-protected admin panel to manage rooms, view bookings, and process cancellations. The database has six linked tables: room types, rooms, students, staff, bookings, and payments. A stored procedure handles room allocation, triggers update room status automatically on booking or cancellation, and views simplify reporting. Transactions ensure student registration, allocation, and payment succeed or roll back together, keeping data consistent. The project applies core DBMS concepts, including ER modeling, normalization, triggers, procedures, views, and transactions, in a working web system.
