Project Abstract

ZAMBIA JOBS AND INTERNSHIPS FINDER
ABSTRACT
The Zambia Jobs and Internships Finder is a web-based platform designed to improve access to employment and internship opportunities for students, graduates, and job seekers in Zambia. The project was initially developed using HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and JavaScript, with job and internship information stored as static data. Although the system provided search and filtering features, the static data made it difficult to update and manage opportunities efficiently.
The proposed system will transform the existing application into a dynamic database-driven web application using PHP and MySQL while retaining HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and JavaScript. MySQL will store information about users, companies, jobs, internships, and applications, while PHP will handle communication between the website and database.
The system will have three main users: Admin, Employer, and Job Seeker. The Admin will manage the platform and verify employers before approving their accounts. Approved employers will be able to manage company information and post jobs and internships. Job seekers will register, search and filter opportunities, view details, and submit applications. Their sessions will be maintained on their devices to reduce repeated login requirements.
The project will involve database design, ERD development, system development, authentication, authorization, and testing. The expected outcome is a functional and user-friendly platform that provides a more organized way of connecting verified employers with job seekers.
1. PROJECT IDEA
The Zambia Jobs and Internships Finder will provide a centralized platform where employers can advertise job and internship opportunities and where students, graduates, and other job seekers can search and apply for suitable positions.
The system will have three main sections. The Admin will manage users and opportunities and verify employer registrations to help reduce fake or unverified accounts. The Employer will register, undergo verification, and, once approved, manage a company profile and publish available jobs and internships. The Job Seeker will register and use the platform to search, filter, and apply for opportunities.
Unlike the original static system, opportunities will be stored in a MySQL database, allowing information to be added, updated, retrieved, and managed without changing the website's source code. PHP will connect the website to the database and process system operations.
2. GENERAL OBJECTIVE
The main objective is to design and develop a dynamic database-driven web application that provides an organized platform for managing and accessing job and internship opportunities in Zambia.
3. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
The project aims to:
1. Design a relational MySQL database for storing users, companies, jobs, internships, and applications.
2. Develop separate access levels for Admins, Employers, and Job Seekers.
3. Provide employer registration and verification before account approval.
4. Enable approved employers to manage company profiles and publish opportunities.
5. Enable job seekers to register and maintain accessible accounts.
6. Provide search and filtering functions for jobs and internships.
7. Allow job seekers to view opportunities and submit applications.
8. Allow administrators to manage users, employers, opportunities, and applications.
9. Integrate PHP with MySQL for dynamic data management.
10. Develop a responsive interface using HTML, CSS, Bootstrap where necessary, and JavaScript.
11. Test the system to ensure its main functions operate correctly.
4. METHODOLOGY
The project will follow a database and web application development approach.
Requirements Analysis
The requirements of the Admin, Employer, and Job Seeker will be identified, including the information they need to provide and the functions they need to perform.
Database Design
An Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) will be developed to identify the main entities, attributes, and relationships. MySQL will be used to create the database, with primary and foreign keys used to establish relationships between tables. Normalization will be applied to reduce unnecessary data duplication.
System Development
PHP will be used for server-side processing and communication with MySQL. It will handle registration, authentication, employer verification, profiles, job and internship postings, and applications. Static JavaScript opportunity data will be replaced with information retrieved dynamically from the database.
Interface Development
HTML and CSS will provide the structure and design of the website. Bootstrap will be used where necessary for responsive layouts, while JavaScript will support features such as validation, searching, and filtering.
Testing
The system will be tested using sample records. Registration, login, employer approval, job posting, internship posting, searching, filtering, and applications will be tested to ensure that the system works correctly and data is properly stored and retrieved.
5. EXPECTED OUTCOMES
The project is expected to produce a functional, responsive, and user-friendly database-driven employment platform.
The system will make job and internship information easier to manage by replacing static JavaScript records with structured MySQL data. Employers will be able to publish opportunities after approval, while job seekers will be able to search and apply for suitable positions.
The employer verification process will provide an additional level of control over information published on the platform. Role-based access will also ensure that Admins, Employers, and Job Seekers can access functions appropriate to their responsibilities.
Overall, the project will demonstrate the practical integration of HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, SQL, database design, ERD, authentication, authorization, and session management in developing a dynamic web application.
