Project Abstract

Engineering department at Ndola Teaching Hospital experience equipment and infrastructure faults that need urgent and timely attention. Faults need to be reported on time, assessment and repairs need to be documented. The method used to keep these records is done by paper based record and verbal communication. This method makes it difficult to make follow ups on the reported faults.
The project proposes the design and implementation of an Engineering Fault Reporting and Maintenance Database Management System to improve the recording, management, tracking and retrieval of engineering maintenance information. This system will provide a centralized database for recording faults, fault description, equipment details, date reported, assigned engineer/technician, maintenance action, spare parts used, completion date and current fault status.
Authorized users will be able to submit and update reports on the reported faults whereas supervisors will be able to monitor maintenance activities and generate reports based on this.
