PROJECT TITLE: AGRILIB - AN ONLINE AGRICULTURAL KNOWLEDGE LIBRARY SYSTE

ABSTRACT

Agriculture is the backbone of Zambia's economy, yet many small-scale farmers lack access to timely and reliable information on modern farming practices. Most farmers rely on word of mouth, which leads to poor crop selection, misuse of chemicals, and heavy losses from pests and diseases.

This project aims to develop AgriLib, a web-based Agricultural Knowledge Library System that will serve as a centralized digital platform for agricultural information. The system will allow users to search for and access information on various types of agro-chemicals including fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides with details on application and safety, pest and disease control methods, and seed varieties suitable for different farming seasons and soil types in Zambia.

The system will be developed using web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and MySQL database. Key features will include a user-friendly search functionality, categorized information by seasons, crops and chemicals, an admin panel for managing content, and a responsive design accessible on both mobile and desktop devices.

The expected outcome of this project is to empower farmers, agricultural students and extension officers with accurate, organized and easily accessible information, thereby improving decision making, increasing crop yields and promoting sustainable agriculture.
