Project Abstract

The Design and Development of a Multi-Vendor Food Delivery Order and Dispatch Management Database System is a full-stack database project proposed to improve the management and coordination of food ordering and delivery operations involving customers, food vendors, delivery personnel, and system administrators. The growth of online food ordering has created a need for reliable systems capable of managing large amounts of information while ensuring that customer orders are accurately recorded, processed, assigned, and tracked. Manual or poorly integrated methods of managing food orders can result in duplicated orders, incorrect customer information, delayed deliveries, unavailable menu items, and difficulties in monitoring order status.
The proposed system will provide an integrated web-based interface connected to a relational database for managing the major activities involved in food delivery operations. Customers will be able to register accounts, browse participating food vendors, view available menu items, create orders, specify delivery details, and monitor the progress of their orders. Food vendors will be provided with functionality for managing their profiles, menu items, prices, availability, and incoming customer orders. Delivery personnel will be assigned orders and will be able to update delivery statuses as orders progress from preparation to collection and final delivery.
The database will maintain structured information relating to customers, vendors, menu categories, food items, orders, order details, payments, delivery assignments, delivery locations, and order status updates. Relationships between these entities will be designed to reduce unnecessary data duplication and maintain data integrity. The system will also use validation mechanisms to ensure that orders contain valid menu items, quantities, prices, customer information, and delivery assignments. Order status management will allow the system to record stages such as Pending, Confirmed, Preparing, Ready for Collection, Out for Delivery, Delivered, and Cancelled.
An administrative interface will enable authorized users to manage registered customers, vendors, delivery personnel, menu information, and transactions. Administrators will also be able to generate reports concerning orders, vendor performance, delivery activities, and completed or cancelled orders. Simulated online payment functionality may be incorporated to demonstrate how payment records can be associated with individual orders without requiring the implementation of a real financial gateway.
The expected outcome is a functional full-stack database application that demonstrates practical application of database management principles, including entity relationships, normalization, primary and foreign keys, constraints, queries, transaction processing, data validation, and report generation. The project will provide a centralized platform for coordinating food orders and deliveries while demonstrating how an appropriately designed relational database can improve information accuracy, organization, and accessibility within a multi-vendor food delivery environment.
